Research & Development

Sun Biomedical Laboratories was founded to develop non-isotopic, non enzymatic rapid immunoassay kits. The company's founder, Dr. Ming Sun, was formerly a Project Manager at Abbott Labs and Becton Dickson Immunodiagnostics Division in the 1970's and 1980's as well as Director and VP of R&D in several additional biotech companies prior to the inception of SBL. Over the past 15 years the company has developed a number of patented products and technology platforms and a specific expertise in the use of saliva as a diagnostic medium. Described by many recognized scientists as a convenient but difficult medium to work with, the company has created a uniquely sensitive device for testing for the recent use of drugs of abuse. Marketed as OraLine IV the devices tests for the presence of parent compounds that indicate recent drug use and hence the potential for impairment.

Unlike other devices available in the market, OraLine IV is unique in that it is the only device that tests whole saliva samples that are uncompromised through collection via foam swabs or sample dilution, both of which result in substantially reduced sensitivity and hence relevance when testing for persons who are potentially impaired through the recent use of drugs of abuse.

As the trends associated with the use of drugs of abuse are continually changing with the introduction of new illicit drugs and/or the abuse of prescription medications the company recognizes the need to continue to innovate to keep pace with the changing needs in our societies. Accordingly, the company is presently expanding the capabilities of our saliva drugs
of abuse platform to cover a broader range of drugs and to be more applicable to difficult applications such as in roadside drug testing programs.

While the company's research and development and manufacturing programs are presently focused on the development and commercialization of drugs of abuse testing devices, the company retains a portfolio of research into the use of saliva as a diagnostic medium for other disease states. As the company develops we anticipate that portfolio of devices will cover a broader range of disease states developed internally or through collaboration with other organizations with complimentary technologies.  For more information on collaborative partnerships, please contact info@sunbiomed.com  or call +1 856 401 1080.
